报告内容:
Australia is a land of contrast, “a land of droughts and flooding rains” that have strongly influenced surface and ground water resources for millennia. This presentation paints a picture of Australia’s water resources under threat from changes in environmental conditions due to agriculture and climate change. A pictorial representation of different types of surface water - groundwater interactions throughout Australian is shown. We then look at a case study of the Finke River recharge zone on the margin of the Great Artesian Basin. We show different techniques for estimating recharge from the river to the groundwater and discuss management implications of this study.
报告人简历:
Andy Love has over 30 years’ experience as a hydrogeologist firstly at the South Australian Government and in the last 10 years as a Senior Research Fellow at Flinders University and the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training. He has been the Chief Investigator in a number of national and international projects including fractured rock aquifers in the Clare Valley and the hydrogeology of the Great Artesian Basin. Andy’s research has covered a wide range of interest not limited to, but including estimating groundwater recharge, groundwater flow rates as well as inter aquifer leakage in both sedimentary and fractured rock environments. Andy has used this knowledge to develop both conceptual and numerical models of a number of large groundwater systems. He has served as an expert advisor in a number of water management boards throughout South Australia. In 2013 Andy was recognised as the Unsung Hero of South Australian Science. Currently he works in close collaboration with the Chinese Geological Survey, Xi’an, on groundwater resources in large river basins of north-west China.
